On 20 October 2024, we celebrate the European Statistics Day. This year's celebration, which is important for all statisticians, is held under the motto “Official Statistics, a window for understanding society”.

The European Statistics Day was established on the initiative of the European Statistical Advisory Committee (ESAC) with the support of the European Statistical System (ESS) and the European System of Central Banks (ESCB). It was first celebrated on 20 October 2016, in Budapest, during the second Conference of European Statistics Stakeholders (CESS).

European Statistics Day is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness among European citizens about the indispensable role of official statistics in democratic society, highlight its role as a public good and to foster engagement with key stakeholders. It is also a moment to take pride in the statistical profession and recognise the work of statistical offices.

Public statistics are becoming more and more important when making important and strategic decisions about the development of the economy and infrastructure of countries and regions. Its methodology is constantly improved through the development of new technologies.

On the European Statistics Day, we encourage you to use the information resources of the Statistics Poland and Statistical Offices, as well as to develop knowledge about statistics and to analyse social and economic processes based on available statistics.
