Statistical Office in Olsztyn acts on the base of:

• law dated 29th June 1995 on public statistics (Journal of Laws No. 88, item 439 with later amendments),
• instruction No. 8 of the President of the CSO dated 19th April 2010 on conferring the statute of Statistical Office in Olsztyn (CSO Office Journal No. 4, item 23/2010),
• Organization Statute of Office introduced by the instruction No. 5 of Director of the SO in Olsztyn dated 30th April 2010.

Main duties of the SO in Olsztyn include:

• organization and realization of statistical surveys, including national censuses,
• collection, storage and elaboration of statistical data for surveys conducted by:
  - President of the Central Statistical Office,
  - the Statistical Office in Olsztyn,
• conducting analyses and elaboration of data and final statistical information from surveys,
• co-operation with bodies of public administration operating in warminsko-mazurskie voivodship within the scope of creation and usage of administrative data for statistical purposes,
• making available and disseminating of final statistical information obtained in statistical surveys of public statistics, including basic figures and indicators,
• conducting country official registers:
       REGON - register of units of the national economy,
       TERYT - register of territorial division of the country,
  in the part concerning warminsko-mazurskie voivodship,
• organization and maintaining the net of census enumerators, statistical interviewers and experts,
• conducting statistical surveys for individual request, which are not included in Statistical Survey Program of Official Statistics, and additional elaborations and analyses,
• popularization of knowledge on statistics.

Special nationwide tasks carried out for public statistics:

• conducting methodological works, surveys and studies within the scope of demographic statistics, agricultural statistics, including means of production statistics and also in the field of socio-economic situation on rural areas,
• construction of information systems relating to rural areas, demography and agriculture,
• designing and programming of information systems for collecting, processing, elaborating and disseminating of statistical data used by other units of public statistics,
• participation in international cooperation in the field of Euroregional statistics, in particular organization of common statistical surveys, also elaboration and editing of publications about Euroregions,
• printing service for Statistical Offices in Białystok, Bydgoszcz, Gdansk, Olsztyn and Szczecin.

• Demographic Research Centre
  - organization and realization of surveys in the field of demographic statistics for the whole country,
• Research Centre for Rural Areas
  - conducting methodological works, surveys and studies within the field of rural areas,
  - elaborating of information and analytical publications with nationwide and voivodship range,
• Research Centre for Agriculture
  - organization and realization of surveys in the field of agricultural statistics for the whole country,
• Statistical Computing Centre
  - designing and programming of information systems,
  - creating and information service of databases.
